Big Baby

Mario rented Toy Story 3 on Friday night, and we would have watched it then, except we had no electricity all night. And as we had to get the movie back to the store by 9pm the next day, we decided to watch it in the afternoon with Clara around. After all, it's Toy Story and a number of my friends have commented that it's their toddlers' favorite movie. Sounded like a good "first" movie for Clara.

[Clarification: yes, she's two and has watched other movies. She saw Snow White after Thanksgiving when she was sick (and slept through half of it). As I was searching for the royal wedding on TV on Friday, she saw quite a bit of Balto. And she watches a variety of videos with her babysitter at the gringo church every Wednesday . . . so she's not totally deprived. But, except for Snow White, we've never just sat down with her for the express purpose of watching a movie . . . until Saturday!]

She was really into the first half of the movie. I was surprised she lasted that long. Then the novelty began to wear off. Then, [Toy Story 3 spoiler!] when our heroes were caught escaping from Sunnyside on the dumpsters and Woody reminds Lotso and Big Baby about Daisy. Big Baby croaked out a beautifully pathetic "Mama?" (yep, brought tears to my eyes) and then Lotso punched Big Baby in the stomach, and Clara just couldn't take any more. Why was the bear hitting the baby? NO ONE should hit babies!

She cried out, "No, baby, NOOO!" and burst into inconsolable tears.

So, word to the wise: if you've got a sensitive, baby-loving two-year-old, Toy Story 3 may NOT be a great movie for her to watch.

Maybe next year.
