Day 119

Yep, we're on Day #119 of potty training . . . or something like that.

Just kidding. I'm not really counting. But it sure would be nice to get her out of diapers before we've got another one in them for another 3 years.

However, this last week, after months and months of ZERO interest in the potty, we've had a breakthrough! When I change her diaper I ask her if she wants another diaper or if she wants to go naked on bottom. More often than not, she chooses to be naked. Why? Because, in Clara-ese, "naked" or "nakey" equals "bath". And lately, "bath" means that she get to sit in the tub in the patio and play in the water and sun for roughly an hour. This is, hands down, the highlight of her day.

How did "nakey" come to equal "bath"? Every day, for her entire life, when we tell her that she's going to get ready for a bath, we say (pretty much verbatim) "it's time to go get naked for your bath!" Yep, naked=bath. But so far that's working out to my advantage.

Breakthrough #2: she's agreeable to sitting on the potty. Why?

1) I moved it in the hallway, where it's more visible. Also, more practical when someone is in the shower and the potty would normally not be accessible.

2)But, in Clara's mind, the potty is now closer to the bookshelves. And since I initially tried to get her to sit on the potty for an extended period of time by reading her books while sitting on the potty, she sees potty time as book time. And books are her absolute favorite pastime. This now means lots of potty time.

But has she actually put anything in the potty? No. But sooner or later, she will.
